Hello FWALT Community,

Walks 27 and 28 are a wrap.

God did what He always does by showing up big on each of these walks, and our community continues to grow because of it.  There are many powerful stories about the Holy Spirit moving.

The Gathering was a wonderful time of fellowship, worship, food, testimony sharing, and hearing our community’s latest news. We had such a fantastic turnout, with 127 community members present.

Brandie and Brant Allen led our worship, and Community Pastor Chris Willcutt gave us an excellent devotional on leadership and God’s plan for our lives.

Board Chairman Nick Hyman discussed the main business topics.

SENDOFF PROCEDURES ARE CHANGING:
The community voted ‘Yes’ to how Sendoff will be handled on upcoming walks.  The main reasons for these changes are the cost and reliability of transportation. Please see the new Sendoff Procedure below:

Serenade Practices will be in the Chapel at Camp Bethany between 5:15 and 5:30 pm.

Fall Newsletter

As many of you know, our Gatherings are for more they just eating and fellowship. We also hear who the next lay leaders are, hear about how the last walks went, vote on any open secretariate vacancies and coordinator positions, and approve any recommended changes on the FWALT Manual or Policies and Procedures. The following were presented by the FWALT Nominating Committee and approved at the Fall gathering on October 14, 2023:

After serving FWALT as Community Pastor from the beginning, Dr Dave Holder is ready for a break. Chris Willcutt will be our new Community Pastor.

Camille Sherman and Jeremy Thomas will roll off the board in December, 2023. Melisa Plunk and Adam Traylor will be filling these vacancies in January, 2024.

Tommie Crow has completed her term as Registrar. Kerrie Lock has accepted this position.

Wendy Brown has completed several terms as our Historian.  Judy Wood has accepted this position.

Amber Spier and Tonya Franklin will complete their terms on the Nominating Committee December, 2023. This committee was already short two members. Jessica Clanton, Karissa Cheatham, Adam Watkins and Joey Preston will fill these open positions January, 2024.

Misty Tucker will be our Community Bookkeeper. The Bookkeeper will help the Secretariate Treasurer. This gives us two people to make sure are finances are balanced instead of just one.

Our community has grown to the point that not everyone who signs up is able to serve on a walk. The “Servants not Picked to Serve” document was presented and approved on October 14, 2023. This document will now be added to our FWALT Policies and Procedures:

Faithwalk Ark-La-Tex Policy on Servants Not Picked to Serve

As the Faithwalk ALT community continues to grow and strengthen, it is
inevitable that more members will sign up to serve than what the maximum
allowable servants are for a Faithwalk weekend. The intention of this policy is to
establish guidelines for Lay Leaders to use in the selection of their team members,
insofar as the selection concerns those applicants previously passed over for
service. This policy has been established, voted on, and approved by the current
FWALT Board as of the date at the top of this policy. As the need arises, changes
will need to be considered and made to this policy.
It is the policy of FWALT that the same applicant may not be rejected as a
servant for three (3) consecutive walks. The board will obtain a list of servants not
chosen to serve on the previous three (3) walks and provide to each Lay Leader
prior to them picking their team members. The Lay Leader should spend time in
prayer and thoughtfully consider the selection of their team. This policy does not
amend the current suggestion in our Policies and Procedures Manual that the
Team Experience and Makeup should be approximately:

● 1/3 of Team should be those who have worked at least four Walks
● 1/3 of Team should be those who have worked two or three Walks
● 1/3 of Team should be those who will be working their first Walk or have
worked only one Walk, with emphasis on those who have not previously
worked a Walk.

Exceptions to this policy may be made on a case by case basis. If the current
Lay Leader feels that an applicant that has been rejected the previous two (2)
Walks should still not be allowed to serve on the current Walk for non-exclusive
reasons such as disciplinary problems; that their current walk with God is not
conducive to them being able to adequately serve on the Walk; or for personal
conflicts of interest, the Lay Leader may contact the current board and provide a
detailed explanation as to why they feel an applicant should be excluded from
service. The board will discuss and vote on the applicant and advise the Lay
Leader of their decision. The Lay Leader will advise the applicant if they are not chosen.

This is all the business that was conducted at the Fall Gathering.
